Sun Signs - Taurus
Apr 21 - May 21

The simple realization of getting your hands dirty to feel the essence of the earth between your fingertips gives us the first clue into the realm of Taurus. In the wonderment of solitude we sometimes need to get ourselves back into simple form. To be simple and to get rid of the things that no longer matter and invite those things that we need to provide the quality that makes us a channel of the sublime.

Taurus is the 2nd sign of the Zodiac.

Element: Earth
Ruling planet: Venus
Gender:  Feminine
Ruling Body Parts: Throat (Neck), Shoulders, and Thyroid
The Sun goes into Taurus from approximately 4/20 to 5/21. (Please note that the Sun goes into each sign at varying times each year. This year if you live on the East Coast the Sun goes into Taurus on 4/20 at 12:29 AM.)
The symbol of Taurus looks like the Full moon with a crescent moon on top. Allen Oaken in his fabulous “Complete Astrology” states; “The Moon is the Celestial Mother and stands for the principles of growth and fertility.” The upturned horns or bowl on top of the “full moon” shows the creative forces of growth that are symbolic of Taurus.

There are many stories that represent the history of Taurus in Ancient religious Mythology. One ancient civilization that is characterized by the “Bull” was Egypt. Bulls were sacred to Ra (Sun God) as they had a strong connection with the Sun of the ancient Egyptians. The meat of the bull was considered a luxury because the Bull was used for Religious offerings.

During the culmination of this period of worship for the Ancient Egyptians was the Age of Taurus. The reference of Ages comes from the 26,000-year cycle in which Earth transits through each of the 12 signs of the zodiac. Tibetans, Egyptians, Hopi, and Mayans refer to this same 26,000-year cycle. (Please note that this cycle is backwards in relationship to the regular Zodiac Cycle) During this period there were great advances in agriculture and other structural accomplishments that represented the Earth.

Taurus takes the birthing newness from Aries and creates form. From the fire of creation that is present from Aries, Taurus brings in the slowing down and calmness that is needed.  It takes patience to build a house and it takes patience to plant the seeds in a proper trajectory for growth. Taurus is here to take all that fire from Aries and bottle it up for conservation.  That way none is wasted.
Taurus finds its channel in the earth. I see’s the utopia in all things created by the earth. The sounds of music coming from the bird’s maybe the gentle love from an animal. Taureans have the sense to understand their boundaries and prohibit those they do not want from intruding upon their territory.

This is caused by a deep-rooted insecurity that can sometimes lead to jealousy. In men sometimes this can lead to a perception of appearing non-emotional. The wall building comes from not wanting to appear weak. The challenge of the female can be not speaking up for what they want. Thus allowing the comfort of not ruffling the feathers to stifle their intention.

Here in lies the shadow of Taurus. By relying so much on the physical senses they lose site of the mystical quality that is representing in the blooming origins of life.  They block out the idea of allowing “something” else to have the credit in their earthy deeds. They become dogmatic to the “comfort” of doing things themselves. It is hard for them to ask for help. Yes we need the earthy senses in order to manifest on this plain. But if the Taurus becomes too reliant on the physical senses then they lose sight of the beauty of the soul. The Taurus knows that their beautiful singing voice comes from them but they must also acknowledge that what they are conveying in song and the feeling of connectedness comes from the essence of spirit.

The essence of the “Bull” in love wants to know that the heart of their lover is attached to the same root as them.  It’s why it can take what seems to be a lifetime to fall in love with someone.  Don’t get me wrong, the sensual emotions can come out of a Taurus pretty quickly but true love can sometimes take a while to blossom. But once they have fallen in love you might not find a more loyal lover.
Taurus is the reliant friend that makes sure the essentials to survival are taken the heights of manifestation.
