Sun Signs - Aries
Mar 21 - Apr 20
Whenever I think of the Warrior of the world I think of Aries. Aries describes the warrior balance within the integration of the soul and human form. In other words Aries is here to learn how use it’s warrior instincts to energetically transform their soul into a vibrant stand alone individual that allows themselves the freedom to just “be”.
Aries is the 1st sign of the Zodiac.
Element: Fire
Ruling planet: Mars
Gender: Masculine
Ruling Body Parts: Head and Blood
The Sun goes into Aries from approximately 3/19 to 4/20. (Please note that the Sun goes into each sign at varying times each year. This year if you live on the East Coast the Sun goes into Aries on 3/20 at 1:32 PM.)
The symbol of Aries looks like a Rams horn but can also be seen as the eyebrows and nose.
In ancient Greece the story is told of Jason and the Argonauts in hot pursuit of the Golden Fleece that was worn by the Aries the Winged Ram. Mercury gave the Ram to Nephele when her husband the King of Athamus married Ino as his second wife. This upset Nephele and she left. As legend has it this caused a great drought that Ino blamed on Nepheles Children because she was jealous. She convinced the King that sacrificing Phrixus would end the drought. So, Nepheles put both her children Phrixus and Helle on the Winged Ram and went off toward the east along the sky. On the way Helle fell off the Ram into the sea but Phrixus landed safely in Colchis. There he sacrificed the Ram and the Ram became the constellation Aries.
The Ram represents the call to action to save and defend but also understands the sacrifice that must be had for the greater good. Aries must find peace in Sacrifice even if they are in the midst of it’s own survival. In other words Aries cannot become selfish. The great “I am” is seen by the individual oneness that represents us all. So, to be true to the great “I am” Aries must see the self in the reflection of the wholeness in all humankind.
As the battle rages on and the dynamic of your soul is constantly influx the Aries can find itself in one battle after the next. On one hand you want to save the world but on the other somewhere deep inside yourself you do not feel worthy. The question is how many times does Aries have to prove to itself that it can survive? The answer to that question is once Aries finally realizes that no matter what they do, they always have the will to survive. Then they can acknowledge that it was not them that were allowing them to surviving. Aries power is its unconscious connectedness to source When Aries believes that it’s them that have the power they fail. When they let go of the ego driven idea that they are in control they win.
It is then that you the Aries can close your eyes and see yourself alone on the top of the mountain. There you stare down to the depths of who you are. But, who are you? Your first instinct is to jump and as you are falling you start to realize that you are no longer in control. An overwhelming fear sets in of annihilation. You start fighting profusely trying to find a way at all cost to survive. When an Aries is challenged with their survival the shadow can look for anyway to survive. This can lead the Aries to selfishly only look out for themselves at the expense of others. Fear not Aries, you are the daredevil you are the warrior you know what you are here to do. You bring your impulse of control back to your grasp and see a large branch protruding from the side of the mountain. You reach for it but miss. More determined now you see another branch; knowing this is your last chance you snag the branch with the tips of your fingers succeeding in stopping your fall. Once again you have risen to the intensity of the challenge and confirmed your role as the survivor.
Sometimes it takes a while for Aries to understand the dynamic of who they are. Seeing an Aries at 21 can sometimes overwhelm the slower more grounded signs. Come back to that same Aries at 41 and you will see someone who has built in resolve. They will also have conditioned themselves through their different phases of “survival” to use the abundance of energy they have at their disposal in a more unified way. They seem to know out of the womb exactly what they want. It’s the learning to corral the abundance of energy they possess and direct it for the greatest thought for all that takes time. Aries is not the sign you can tell what to do. Like their other fire-oriented signs (Leo and Sagittarius) they must learn through experience. After getting knocked on the head a few too many time the Aries learns how to adept itself and manifest all it ever wanted.
Aries as the first sign of the Zodiac represents beginnings. It represents hope that the new spring can live again within the beauty of all creation. Having Aries in your chart can give you the strength to no only believe in this beauty but also the opportunity to be actively involved in it. Aries are not here to sit on the couch and feel sorry for them selves. They are here to create the foundation of growth that will allow the true identity of themselves to be revealed as they evolve into their wholeness.
